(i·m)position
Simultaneously “I am position” and “imposition”, Luciterra Dance Company’s newest production is a theatrical story of love, conflict, aggression and sensuality. With a cast of 10 dancers, this award winning show takes the audience on a journey through tensions of connection/disconnection in contemporary society, and the resulting relationship with the body. Set in a distant galaxy where all communication happens through movement, (i·m)position's retro-futurism aesthetic is a nod to old school science fiction. Luciterra’s fresh new work continues to push edges, exploring deep intrinsic themes, while maintaining their playful and entertaining signature style.
The story of (i·m)position centres around two sets of characters, who clash when their different ways of being come into contact for the first time. Through this struggle identities are lost and found, relationships formed and rejected, and power structures are re-defined and reimagined. This narrative is told through Luciterra's innovative dance hybrid, drawing inspiration from each company members’ various training in bellydance, contemporary, and theatre. The aesthetic of mechanical robotic movement, juxtaposed with sweeping lyrical lines creates a dynamic style, as unexpected as it is exciting. Luciterra’s dance resists categorization and has been deemed “a new dialect of human movement.” (Edmonton Journal).
